Cheese-Crusted Fries

These fries take everything you love about golden French fries and coat them in a crispy layer of melted, caramelized cheese. Crunchy outside, soft inside, and bursting with cheesy flavor — they’re addictive and ridiculously easy to make!

Ingredients

  • 3–4 medium russet potatoes (or 1 lb frozen fries)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (for extra crispiness)
  • 2 tbsp oil (vegetable, canola, or olive oil)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings: chili flakes, garlic powder, parsley, or ranch for dipping

Instructions

If Using Fresh Potatoes:

  1. Cut the potatoes:
    Slice into fries (¼-inch thick).
  2. Soak:
Place in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and pat dry thoroughly.
  3. Toss:
In a large bowl, mix fries with cornstarch, oil, salt, and pepper.

Air Fryer or Oven Method:

  1. Preheat:
    • Air fryer: 200°C (400°F)
    • Oven: 220°C (425°F)
  2. Cook the fries:
    • Air fry for 15–20 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden.
    • Or bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway.
  3. Add the cheese crust:
    • Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the fries.
    • Return to the air fryer or oven for 3–5 minutes until the cheese melts and crisps into a golden crust.
  4. Cool slightly:
Let sit for 1–2 minutes so the cheese firms up, forming that irresistible crust.

Serving Ideas

  • Dip in ranch, spicy mayo, or cheese sauce.
  • Top with bacon bits, jalapeños, or a drizzle of sriracha.
  • Serve alongside burgers, tacos, or as a game-day snack!
