These fries take everything you love about golden French fries and coat them in a crispy layer of melted, caramelized cheese. Crunchy outside, soft inside, and bursting with cheesy flavor — they’re addictive and ridiculously easy to make!
Ingredients
- 3–4 medium russet potatoes (or 1 lb frozen fries)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
- 2 tbsp cornstarch (for extra crispiness)
- 2 tbsp oil (vegetable, canola, or olive oil)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional toppings: chili flakes, garlic powder, parsley, or ranch for dipping
Instructions
If Using Fresh Potatoes:
- Cut the potatoes:
Slice into fries (¼-inch thick). - Soak:
Place in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and pat dry thoroughly. - Toss:
In a large bowl, mix fries with cornstarch, oil, salt, and pepper.
Air Fryer or Oven Method:
- Preheat:
- Air fryer: 200°C (400°F)
- Oven: 220°C (425°F)
- Cook the fries:
- Air fry for 15–20 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden.
- Or bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Add the cheese crust:
- Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the fries.
- Return to the air fryer or oven for 3–5 minutes until the cheese melts and crisps into a golden crust.
- Cool slightly:
Let sit for 1–2 minutes so the cheese firms up, forming that irresistible crust.
